King's Highway 7A -   O N T   H I G H W A Y S

Highway 7A is a short cut route bypassing the rather circuitous northern routing that Highway 7 takes via the Lindsay Highway.  Highway 7A's main purpose is to connect Highway 7 West to Peterborough and all points easterly.  Highway 7A was totally spared by both the 1997 and 1998 provincial downloading programs.

Road Info:  Highway 7A has seen some much needed upgrades in the past few years.  Some of these upgrades are still being completed and others are still desperately needed.  7A is a beautiful Highway from Manchester to Port Perry, a major reconstruction project is taking place from Port Perry to Blackstock.  From Blackstock to Bethany Highway 7A is average to sub-par, east of Bethany was just reconstructed and is now quite a beautiful highway.  Watch for congestion in the Port Perry area during the summer months.

Pre- 2003 End of the Highway

* In summer 2003 8 km of Highway 7A was re-designated to Highway 7, and Highway 115.  This rectified the discontinuous section of Highway 7 from the Parkway (on the Peterborough Bypass) to Highway 7/7A junction (north of Springville).  However this change also created a problem; Highway 7A no longer has both of its termini with Highway 7, something that I think is an irresponsible decision made by the MTO.  Thus westbound distance are shown from 7A's former (pre-2003) terminus in parenthesis after the current distances, which are shown as normal.
