City of Belleville

Highway 401 looking west from the Highway 37 overpass near Belleville.  This photo shows the recently rehabilitated Moira River Bridge, and more notably the Highway 62/401 cloverleaf.  The Belleville cloverleaf is one of the last surviving interchanges of this type left in the province.  Before the parclo became dominant, the cloverleaf was the standard interchange used in the province, particularly at the junction of two highways.

City of Belleville Looking east towards Kingston on Highway 401 from the Highway 37 overpass.  Interestingly, the interchange at Highway 37 was formerly a cloverleaf interchange much like the neighbouring interchange at Highway 62 interchange.  The cloverleaf at Highway 37 was reconfigured into a parclo with all ramps on the east side of the overpass to minimize weaving in 1991.

Highway 401 looking west from the Highway 38 overpass in the west end of Kingston.  Just west of Highway 38, Highway 401 descends into a large valley where it crosses Collins Creek.  Through the valley, there are several sharp corners, which unfortunately were not realigned during the ongoing widening contract.

City of Kingston Looking west from the Sydenham Road overpass in Kingston.  There is presently ongoing construction to widen Highway 401 throughout Kingston.  The section from 3.8km west of the Highway 38 interchange easterly to Sydenham Road is currently under construction and should be completed by mid summer 2006.

City of Kingston Looking east from the Sydenham Road overpass.  The Sydenham Road overpass has a fairly atypical look to it.  The structure is not a typical pre-stressed concrete arch bridge that is quite typical of overpasses from this era.  The railing design is also fairly atypical.  Click here for a picture of the Sydenham Road bridge from road level traveling eastbound.
