During the 2006 construction season, Highway 407 was widened by one lane in each direction between Highways 427 and 404. This new lane was added in the central part of the highway, replacing the grass median. Opposing traffic is now separated with two sets of temporary concrete jersey barriers. Highway 407 now has a 10-lane cross-section between Highway's 427 and 404, and an 8-lane cross-section between Highway's 400 and 404.
