Etobicoke Construction Information

As of the Summer of 2007, Highway 427 is one of the GTA's last surviving vintage 1960's-1970s era Ontario freeways.  The only major modifications that have been done to the highway since initial construction are a few structure rehabilitations and the replacement of the central w-style metal guide rail with a newer concrete tall-wall barrier completed with high-mast lighting.  Other vintage elements, such as the original concrete driving surface, and original truss lighting (though no longer functioning) have been left unaltered.

View looking southerly from the Bloor Street overpass towards the basketweave structure between the southbound express and collector lanes. Another view of the basketweave structure.  From this point southerly, the express lanes can only access the QEW and Gardiner Expressway. A centreline view of the 427 from the Bloor Street overpass. View looking south between the northbound express and collectors.  Notice the ramp from the express to collector lanes passes under the mainline collector lanes.

View looking northerly in between the southbound express and collector lanes, at the southbound Express to Collector transfer. A true-centreline view from the Bloor Street overpass.  Notice the newly (2005) installed central tall-wall barrier and high mast lighting. Another northbound view, this time highlighting the vintage truss lighting that was common on Ontario freeways during the 1960s through the 1980s. Old style ground mounted Valhalla Road advanced signage.  Notice the short weave lane behind the signage as well.
