City of Greater Sudbury This picture shows Highway 69 looking south from just south of the Richard Lake Road intersection.  This picture also shows the southern beginning of the semi-urban 4.5 lane cross section.  When the new Highway 69 freeway opens in 2008 it will meet the existing Highway 69 here, eliminating this S-curve.

City of Greater Sudbury Highway 69 looking north (west) from the Richard Lake Road intersection.  Highway 69 has a semi-urban 4.5 lane cross section from the Highway 17 interchange southerly for roughly 5km.  The Highway 17 interchange is located only a few kilometres north (west) of this picture.

City of Greater Sudbury COMPASS sign for southbound traffic located about 3km south of Highway 17 in Sudbury.  This is one of four COMPASS signs that were installed early in 2005.  These signs typically convey safe driving messages, but also alert drivers of upcoming road construction or closures if required.

Approaching the end of Highway 69.  Highway 69 ends just south of Sudbury at Highway 17.  Before the southern Sudbury Bypass Highways were constructed, Highway 69 would have met Highway 17 closer to downtown Sudbury.  Sudbury Road 46 makes up most of Highway 69's former alignment into the centre of the city.  Click here for Highway 17 Images.

City of Greater Sudbury Looking south along Highway 69-New from roughly 500m south of the Gladu Road overpass.  Notice the concrete culvert is being pre-stressed to ensure the highway settles on top of Northern Ontario's often weak soil conditions before the highway is paved and opened to traffic.
Picture taken: July 3rd, 2006.  Size: 65kb.
City of Greater Sudbury View looking north towards the Gladu Road interchange on Highway 69-New.  The existing Highway 69 that is to be by-passed with the 4-lane highway will tie into this new alignment at this interchange.

Picture taken: July 3rd, 2006.  Size: 55kb.

City of Greater Sudbury View looking north through the Gladu Road structure.  Notice that through this portion of Highway 69-New has only one carriageway and no central drainage through the Gladu Road interchange.  This would suggest that this portion of Highway 69-New will not be a divided highway.

Picture taken: July 3rd, 2006.  Size: 55kb.

City of Greater Sudbury View looking east from the Gladu Road overpass towards the graded east side of the interchange.  The Gladu Road interchange is of an odd configuration, as although it will function as a trumpet, the western-side ramps will not be directional, requiring right turns on and off of Gladu Road from the ramp terminals.
